Founded in 2017, Loulou Céramique is a charming café and art studio located in Pierrefonds-Roxboro, specializing in DIY ceramic painting. Recently with spoke with co-owner Dara Berlind about the business.

When & why did you start Loulou Ceramique?
The company was established in 2017, to satisfy a long-term passion for pottery.

What is the company’s core mandate?
To promote the arts and manual creativity, away from the rapidly growing digital-age.

What are the challenges involved?:
Establishing the importance of art in our daily life, away from the current technologies. We are noticing a rapid decline in interest regarding the manual arts, so our goal is to retrieve the patience and trust of the process that comes with learning a new craft.

What are the rewards?
Client satisfaction.

Who are your clients, and how do you reach them?
Our demographic is varied between both men and women, young and seasoned. We witness first dates, family and friend outings, parent-children dates, birthday parties. Most of these are attracted through word of mouth, although we reach some of our clientele through our social media presence as well.

What kind of feedback do you get from them?
Loulou Ceramique has prided itself in often, if not always, transforming a new customer into a loyal visitor. The keywords often thrown around are “family-oriented”, “friendly staff”, and “calm and cozy ambiance”, as per our Google Reviews.

What makes a good piece of ceramic art?
Art is a reflection of how each individual visualizes the nature around them, so there are technically no rules to it. Now, when it comes to proper technique and respect of the handling of the materials, there is always added approaches that one can expand on, which is where we come into play, providing a liberal but accurate point of resource for the client to practice freely.

Has the internet, social media, or AI, affected what you do?:
Naturally. As mentioned previously, there is a natural loss of commitment to process and artistry in this day and age.

What advice might you have for younger creatives looking to have a career in ceramics?
To follow their goal, it is an unpredictable path, but if you do it right, it can be quite rewarding.

What’s on the company’s agenda for the rest of 2026, and going into 2027?
To promote the hand building of ceramics, especially for children.
